West Bengal Panchayat Election 2023 : 20 killed in violence

As the voting ended on Saturday, West Bengal saw unprecedented violence, like bombs being thrown at rivals in various villages and ballot boxes being looted and vandalised. Around 20 people have been killed so far in widespread violence. The ruling party has blamed the centre for the trouble.

The polling began at 7 a.m. in 73,887 seats in the state, with 5.67 crore people deciding the fate of around 2.06 lakh candidates. Around 66.28 percent voter turnout was recorded. State Election Commissioner (SEC) Rajiva Sinha promised to look into complaints of vote tampering and take a decision on possible re-polling.
