Turkey’s Erdogan Throws Weight Behind India’s Quest for UN Security Council’s Permanent Seat

Turkey’s Erdogan welcomes India’s UN Security Council aspirations

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed enthusiasm for India’s possible membership of the UN Security Council and proposed a rotational membership system. These comments came after the G20 summit, where world leaders gathered to discuss global issues. Erdogan’s statement coincides with US President Joe Biden‘s affirmation of support for reform of the UN Security Council, of which India is a permanent member.

Towards a more inclusive UN Security Council: Erdogan’s vision for equal representation

Erdogan stressed that this is not just about the five current permanent members (US, UK, France, China and Russia). He advocated a more inclusive approach, suggesting that all countries should have permanent seats. In addition to permanent membership, Erdogan proposed a rotational system where all 195 member states could serve on the UN Security Council in turns. This idea promotes more equitable representation of nations on this important global stage.
