On Tuesday, Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, introduced a new online platform called the “CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal.” The purpose of this portal is to return the money that thousands of individuals have deposited in four cooperative societies owned by the Sahara Group. The portal will make it easier for people to get their deposits back.

Shah promised the people who deposited their money that nobody could prevent them from getting it back now. He assured them that once they register on the portal, they will receive their refund within 45 days.

Supreme Court Order

The apex court instructed on March 29, 2023, that Rs. 5000 Crores be moved from the “Sahara-SEBI Refund Account” to the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS). This money will be distributed to the rightful depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies to fulfil their legitimate dues.

A refund up to Rs 10,000 will be available for the time being.

In the first phase, depositors will get a refund of up to Rs 10,000 only. That is, even if the deposit amount is Rs 20,000, only Rs 10,000 will be transferred. Rest can be claimed at later stages.
