Indonesia President invites PM Modi for important visit to Jakarta

In a significant diplomatic move, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has extended a warm invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an important visit to Jakarta on September 6 and 7. The visit assumes immense significance as it coincides with two important events: the 20th ASEAN-India Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit, both hosted by Indonesia in its current role as ASEAN Chair.

The upcoming ASEAN-India summit assumes immense significance as it marks the inaugural meeting as India and ASEAN elevate their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022. The agenda of this summit is designed to make a comprehensive assessment of India-ASEAN relations and chart a course for future cooperation.

Promoting regional cooperation: East Asia Summit and 43rd ASEAN Summit

The East Asia Summit serves as a strategic forum where leaders of ASEAN member states and eight additional countries, including India, gather to deliberate on regional and global issues. In a broader perspective, President Joko Widodo is set to chair a total of 12 sessions during the 43rd ASEAN Summit to be held from September 5 to 7. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, from ASEAN Summit and Retreat sessions to engagement with countries such as China and South Korea. In addition, there will be dedicated forums focused on the Indo-Pacific region and the symbolic transfer of the ASEAN Chairmanship to Laos.
