PM Modi in Egypt – Order of Nile

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid respects to the Indian troops who heroically fought and gave their lives in Egypt and Palestine during the First World War by visiting the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Cemetery in this city. At the cemetery that houses the Heliopolis (Port Tewfik) Memorial and the Heliopolis (Aden) Memorial, Modi left flower offerings and signed the guest book. According to a news statement from the MEA, “Prime Minister paid homage to over 4,300 brave Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Egypt and Aden during the First World War.”

As the first Indian prime minister to make a bilateral visit to the strategically positioned Middle Eastern country in 26 years, Narendra Modi was hailed as “India’s hero” by members of the Indian community in Egypt.

The Ritz Carlton hotel hosted a raucous welcome for Modi, who landed here on Saturday after ending a high-profile state visit to the US at President Joe Biden’s request. There, he met with members of the Indian diaspora in various groups.
