IMF bailout for Pakistan

Pakistan’s Prime Minister hopes for a bailout package soon.

The IMF is thinking on its decision for bailout package for Pakistan which will be finalized in a day or two, as reported by prime minister of Pakistan. The global lender said it was holding talks with the aim of “quickly reaching an agreement”.

The IMF was very strict on fiscal policy tightening decisions before approving the bailout package for the disbursal of $1.1 billion under the Extended Fund Facility agreed in 2019. In a statement, the IMF mission leader for Pakistan noted that Pakistani authorities had taken “decisive measures” to align their policies with the IMF-supported economic reform plan like yearly budget, actions to strengthen the currency, and tighter monetary policy.
