Earlier this week, scores of people marched in the capital Niamey in support of the new leaders who came to power in a coup d’état in Niger. They waved Russian flags, chanted the name of the Russian president and strongly criticized former colonial ruler France.

Protesters went to the French embassy and set fire to one of the doors, according to the witness. Thick black smoke could be seen rising from that area and spreading across the city. The Nigerian Army intervened and dispersed the crowd of protesters.

Macron Warns of military action against attack on French citizens

French President Emmanuel Macron said that France would react immediately if there was any violence against French interests in Niger following the recent coup in the country. He stated that no attack on France or its interests in Niger would be tolerated by his government.
