Explosive Clash: Bangladesh Police vs. Protesters Demanding PM Sheikh Hasina’s Resignation!

The Police in Bangladesh fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse a crowd that was throwing stones and obstructing major traffic in the capital city, Dhaka. These protesters were demanding that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resign from her post. The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), along with its allies, has been organizing protests since last year. They want Sheikh Hasina to step down and allow a neutral caretaker government to manage the upcoming elections due in January next year.

When the police intervened to scatter the crowds of protesters who had gathered early on Saturday to obstruct traffic on key city highways, fights broke out in a number of locations.

Frequent protest by Oppostion

In Bangladesh, protests organized by the BNP have been happening more frequently since the beginning of this year. The rallies this month have been able to gather thousands of people in the streets. At least 500 opposition activists were recently detained by the police in advance of a march at the BNP headquarters.
