Explosive Allegations Link Newsclick to Spreading Chinese Propaganda!

The subject of an article in The New York Times (NYT) came up for discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The article claimed that China uses propaganda to promote its global political interests. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) used this report to criticize the Congress party.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey raised the matter in the Lok Sabha, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attended the session for the first time after his membership was reinstated. Earlier, he had to lose his membership due to a defamation case, but the Supreme Court stayed his punishment.

The New York Times article accused an American millionaire named Neville Roy Singham of being linked to the Chinese government’s media machine and funding its worldwide propaganda. It was also mentioned that in New Delhi, Singham’s network financially supported a news website called Newsclick, which allegedly promoted the Chinese government’s point of view in its coverage. The NYT article does not directly implicate the Congress party. The BJP’s criticism of the Congress is related to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) raids on NewsClick earlier.

‘China, Congress and NewsClick part of the umbilical cord’: Anurag Thakur

During a press conference, BJP leader and Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur made strong statements. He said that Congress, China and Newsclick are all linked like an umbilical cord. He claimed that Chinese products were evident in Rahul Gandhi’s alleged fake ‘mohabbat ki dukaan’ (a term used to mock Rahul Gandhi’s affection for China).

Accusing Rahul Gandhi of having a favorable approach towards China, Thakur said his love for the country was evident. The BJP accused the Congress of supporting the NewsClick website, which allegedly received funding from China to spread pro-Beijing propaganda, with the intention of working against India’s interests.
