Israeli PM warns Hezbollah against getting involved in war

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning to the Hezbollah terrorist group, cautioning them against getting involved in the ongoing conflict in the region. He stressed that opening a second war front with Israel would have disastrous consequences for Lebanon. Netanyahu further said that if Hezbollah got involved, Israeli retaliatory attacks of “unimaginable” magnitude would devastate Lebanon.

Increasing death toll in Gaza

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has tragically reached 4,500. This worrying number is coupled with a significant increase in the number of injured persons, which is now close to 16,000.

As Israel prepares to intensify its attacks on the Gaza Strip, US President Joe Biden announced the arrival of 20 aid trucks to the area. He expressed Washington’s commitment to ensuring more aid reaches Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.

Major developments in the Israel-Hamas conflict

  • Israeli airstrikes targeted a compound beneath the al-Ansar mosque in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli military claimed that the compound was being used by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad to organize an imminent terrorist attack. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported casualties in the attack.
  • Violence has escalated in the West Bank, with at least 84 Palestinians killed in clashes with Israeli forces since the beginning of the conflict on October 7. In particular, Hamas’s Nukhba unit led the initial surprise attack on Israel.
  • Israeli warplanes carried out several attacks on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The attacks included Hamas property in high-rise buildings, tunnel shafts, weapons storage sites, command centers and mosques used as war rooms. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released photos of the entrance to a bunker beneath a mosque.
  • The United States introduced a draft resolution in the UN Security Council reaffirming Israel’s right to defend itself and demanding that Iran stop exporting arms to groups it deems a threat to regional peace and security. Give. The proposal follows US President Joe Biden’s efforts to secure additional funding for Israel and Ukraine.
  • Hamas spokesman Abu Ubaida expressed willingness to release two additional hostages, but Israel refused. Two US citizens, Judith Tai Raanan and her daughter Natalie, were released earlier on “humanitarian grounds”. However, Israel denied Hamas’s claims and reaffirmed its commitment to bringing home all detainees and missing persons.

International reactions

Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip have drawn increasing concern and criticism among Israel’s neighbors and allies. Arab leaders at a summit in Cairo condemned the Israeli bombing of Gaza. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi rejected any talk of moving Palestinians into the Sinai Peninsula and warned against “eliminating the Palestinian issue”. Jordan’s King Abdullah II described Israel’s actions in Gaza as “war crimes”.

As Israel faces criticism from its neighbors, it also became involved in cross-border fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon, leading to losses on both sides. A Hezbollah official vowed that Israel would pay a high price for any ground offensive in Gaza, while Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that Hezbollah would face a “heavy price” for its attacks against Israel.

The draft UN Security Council resolution proposed by the US calls for the protection of civilians, compliance with international law in response to terrorist attacks and the continued and uninterrupted delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip. The resolution came after a US veto of a Brazilian-drafted text that called for a humanitarian pause in the conflict to allow aid access to Gaza.
