Horrible tragedy hits Pakistan: Deadly suicide blasts rock Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan mosque targeted on Eid Miladun Nabi

At least 50 people were killed and over 100 injured in a powerful suicide blast at a mosque in Balochistan during preparations for Eid Miladun Nabi. The attacker detonated an explosive near the car of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, causing chaos and destruction. Although no group has claimed responsibility, suspicion focuses on the ISIS terror organization, which has been active in the Mastung district in the past. Balochistan Inspector General Abdul Khaliq Shaikh took note of Daesh’s modus operandi and past claims.

A few hours later, another blast occurred in Hangu town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing four and injuring 12 during Friday prayers at a mosque. The terrorists initially attacked a police station but were killed by security forces.

Rescue and chaos in hospitals

The injured were taken to various medical facilities, causing chaos in hospitals as overwhelmed staff struggled to cope. Serious cases were transferred to Quetta for treatment, while dozens remained in local hospitals.

Leaders across Pakistan condemned the attacks. Balochistan’s acting chief minister ordered three days of mourning, while Interior Minister Bugti stressed that terrorists have no religion. Political figures including Shehbaz Sharif expressed outrage. Security measures have been intensified across the country, with police on high alert for the Eid-e-Miladun Nabi procession and Friday prayers. This is the second major explosion in Mustang in recent weeks.

Historical context

Balochistan has been the target of frequent terrorist attacks, with a deadly 2018 attack that claimed 128 lives. Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has been implicated in several attacks in the country’s recent history, including the deadly Peshawar Mosque bombing in January. These tragic incidents are a reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing Pakistan and the need for continued vigilance and cooperation to combat terrorism.
