China Shakes Up Diplomatic Game, Qin Gang Removed as Foreign Minister

Qin Gang has been removed from his position as China’s foreign minister, and his predecessor, Wang Yi, has been appointed to replace him, as stated by Chinese state media.

The announcement of Qin Gang removal was made a month after his last public appearance, but no reason was provided during the national evening news. Interestingly, the decision to remove him was approved during a meeting of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, which usually takes place at the end of the month, adding to the mystery surrounding the situation.

Qin Gang month-long absence

Qin Gang was appointed to the post in December 2022. He is a dependable advisor to President Xi Jinping and an ambassador to the United States. Qin was last seen on June 25 when he attended a meeting of foreign diplomats in Beijing.

Wang Yi to hold the position.

Wang Yi (69), is now back in the position of foreign minister, a role he previously held from 2018 to 2022. The Chinese foreign ministry did not give any reasons for the change when asked for comment. This change in leadership comes at a time when China is actively engaging with other countries and facing strained relations with the United States.
