A new situation may worry the countries of the Indo-Pacific region, especially India and its Quad partners. While the 31st Malabar exercise is underway, a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation states that China is actively trying to observe and collect information about the exercise.

According to the report, China has placed its satellites in low orbits over Australia. These satellites have been set up in such a way that they are collecting details about the ongoing military training.

Malabar Exercise and China’s concerns

Exercise Malabar began in 1992 as an annual event where India and the US practiced naval activities together. Over time, it grew and now includes the four Indo-Pacific countries that make up the Quad: India, the US, Japan and Australia. China has criticized these exercises a lot. These are often seen as a joint response of the Quad countries to ensure security and peace in the Indo-Pacific region. This comes from concerns of China gaining more control in the region.
